Why have you not been blogging?

As a supporter of regular blogging for all of my students and art friends, I have come to the realization that I just haven’t been blogging enough recently. I can come up with some “excuses,” but ultimately, I should be much better about adding content to my blog.

Today I have been putting together some content for a seminar on blogging and some DIY website links. It seems silly for me to talk about this if I’ve not been actively participating in it recently. Therefore, I’m returning to put my thoughts into cyberspace. Despite my lack of blogging, I have been writing quite a bit recently. As the end of the semester creeps nearer, we move closer to deadlines for job and residency applications. In light of this, I have been rewriting my artist statement (yet again), writing letters of interest, and reorganizing my portfolio. Unfortunately, this project is not a one-size-fits-all. This has to be continually reworked for every submission. This time I hope to be a bit more selective about the jobs and residencies I am researching, as to more effectively target interesting opportunities with a more focused effort.

As for the artwork, I’ve begun proposals and planning for two new Barchael projects with Mike Bernhardt. One deals with historical, Franco-American correspondence. The other, is a Barchael investigation into public art. Once we have a bit more mapped out, we will post some of the new work.

The other artwork I have accomplished since I’ve been in France has been minimal. Some photography explorations, a few design sketches, a new sketchbook, and some random video and audio exercises that may become the long overdue updates to my Quo Vadis web sketchbook. Between teaching, school trips (i.e. Venice, Paris, and Berlin), applications, meetings, research, and a small selection of art experiments, I feel I have acomplished little toward any new projects for myself. Luckily, the new Barchael projects are interesting and I have already had a couple of meetings about exhibition possibilities for them in the near future. I’ll let you know when the possibilities become more of a reality.
